Kikalinda Lodge in Tsavo East National Park

Kilalinda Camp provides an unparalleled level of seclusion, privacy, and luxury. It is situated on the banks of the Athi River, surrounded by lush gardens and acacia forests, on the edge of Tsavo East National Park. The Yatta Plateau lies behind the camp, and on a clear day, one can see Kilimanjaro to the south. The Yatta plateau, a ridge or tongue of lava that is roughly 300 km long and hardly wider than 10 km, is an old valley that has been frozen in time. It provides Tsavo East with an endless backdrop. One of the world’s longest lava flows, the Yatta offers breathtaking vistas of the Park’s undulating expanses, is a haven for birds, and is an unmatched place for a picnic or sundowner. Kikalinda Lodge in Tsavo is very appealing.

It is composed of phonolite, a type of lava between 11 and 13.6 million years old. According to current theory, the Yatta Plateau was created when a torrent of lava moved across the landscape and eventually entered an old river basin. The lava then poured down the valley, assuming its outlines until it finally cooled and solidified. The frozen river of lava then rose as a ridge while the surrounding ground was progressively depressed by erosion. Kikalinda Lodge in Tsavo East is a great place to be.

Location

Easily reachable by air and car, Tsavo East National Park is roughly 326 kilometers from Nairobi and 160 kilometers from Mombasa. 40-minute private charter flight from Nairobi.

Accommodation

Each of the six eco-friendly cottage rooms has a wall of dirt, pillars made of olive wood, hand-woven carpets, and enormous four-poster beds. There is a larger cottage with a private bar and a Jacuzzi/plunge pool. Kikalinda Lodge in Tsavo is very accommodating.

Bars and Dining

The center eating area, which has an open pool bar and views of the pool and river, can accommodate 16 people and has views of the pool. Additionally, a panoramic platform perched high in the boughs of a large baobab tree serves sundowners and sunrise breakfasts.

Kilalinda takes great satisfaction in serving top-notch food. The breads and pastries are completely homemade, and most fresh veggies are farmed on a local farm.
